John Bolton to testify if subpoenaed. The former national security adviser, who has since the initial impeachment inquiry of Donald Trump, has not cooperated with the House of Representatives to testify, but Monday the 6th of January 2020 stated that he would testify if subpoenaed to come forward at the senate trial.
Who Is John Bolton
John Robert Bolton (born November 20,1948) is an American attorney, political commentator, republican consultant, former diplomat and national security adviser.
Bolton was The United Staes Ambassador to The United Nations from August 2005 to December 2006 as a recess appointee by President George W. Bush. He resigned at the end of his recess appointment in December 2006 because he was unlikely to win confirmation from the senate, of which The Democratic Party had gained control at that time. In later years, Bolton was The National Security Adviser Of The United States under the Trump Administration from April 2018 to September 2019.
He is a former senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), and Fox News Channel Communicator. He was a foreign policy adviser to 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Bolton has been involved with numerous conservative organizations, including the anti-Muslim Gatestone. Institute, where he was the organization chairman until March 2018, and as director of the project for the New American Century, which favored going to war with Iraq.
A foreign policy hawk, John Bolton is an advocate for regime in Iran, Syria, Libya, Venezuela, Cuba, Yemen and North Korea. He also reportedly called for the termination of The Iran Nuclear Deal. He was an advocate of the Iraq War and continues to support the decision to invade Iraq. He, continuously supported military action and regime change in Syria, Libya and Iran. A Republican-his political views have been described as American nationalist conservative, and neoconservative.
What Bolton Told Fiona Hill And Tim Morrison
Fiona Hill testified that John Bolton told her was not part of Ukraine “drug deal”, and then told her to tell The National Security Counsel lawyers. He also stated that he was not part of Sondland and Mulvaney’s “investigations for a meeting deal.”
Tim Morrison,(National Security Counsel) resigned ahead of impeachment inquiry. Morrison’s testimony reinforced much of what other officials had testified to that President Trump threatened to withhold aid money to Ukraine until Ukraine agreed to investigate the Bidens, (Hunter and Joe). Morrison was concerned with what he had heard on the phone call from President Trump to President Zelenski of Ukraine, He also talked with Bolton and was told to contact the lawyers for National Security.
Why John Bolton’s Testimony Matters
John Bolton’s testimony matters to both Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats want to hear from Bolton, to confirm (firsthand knowledge) statements made by some key witnesses in the Impeachment Inquiry, such as Fiona Hill and Tim Morrison.
Bolton was also one of the Trump officials that tried to talk him down from making the call to President Zelenski about the investigations into the Bidens and the White House visit as well as holding up the aid (391 million dollars), which ultimately set in motion the Impeachment Inquiry to be followed by Donald J Trump’s Impeachment from The House of Representatives on December 18,2019.
Also, from the testimony from Fiona Hill about Rudy Giuliani and Ambassador Sondland, that what they were doing (pushing for the investigations into the Bidens and investigating the 2016 election, that Russia was the ones to interfere in the election, but Ukraine was) he was going to be no part of the “drug deal they are cooking up” and that Rudy Giuliani was a “hand grenade”.
On the Republican side, Bolton is a long time Republican Hawk-wants a war with Iraq and praised Trump on the drone strike that killed Soleimani. It appears that the Republican majority senate leader-Mitch McConnell is not opting for any witnesses and or documents related to The articles of Impeachment.
What Changed Bolton’s Mind Now To Testify
Here is John Bolton’s statement of why he is willing to testify now in front of the senate:
During the present impeachment controversy, I have tried to meet my obligations both as a citizen and as former National Security Adviser, my colleague, Dr. Charles Kupperman, faced with a House Committee subpoena on the one hand, and a Presidential directive not to testify on the other, I sought final resolution of this Constitutional conflict from the federal judiciary. After my counsel informed the House Committee that I too would seek judiciary resolution of these constitutional issues, the committee chose not to subpoena me.
Nevertheless, I publicly resolved to be guided by the outcome of Dr. Kupperman’s case.
This is the statement that Bolton came out with after being asked to testify in the Impeachment Inquiry, even though he was never subpoenaed, he wanted to wait for the courts to resolve the Kupperman’s case before he would testify, but now within the last couple of days he has made a statement on twitter that he would be willing to testify if he was given a subpoena. He also said that he would testify at the senate trial, which why now, hmm, makes you wonder. Book coming out this summer possibly this is a motivator, I’m not sure, I really don’t think anyone can read Bolton’s mind and I don’t want to make a decision one way or the other, maybe he just wants to do the right thing.
In conclusion, John Bolton is a staunch Republican Hawk, with years of experience in politics as a Republican Consultant, diplomat, commentator, ambassador and national security adviser. He was The United States Ambassador under George W. Bush from August 2005 to December 2006. He was The National Security Adviser under Trump Administration from August 2018 to September 2019.
At this point it is whether you believe John Bolton or President Trump of why he left. Bolton states that he resigned and President Trump says that he asked Bolton to resign and or he has said that he fired him. Either way he did leave in September 2019.
The Democrats are really hoping that Bolton does testify to legitimize the testimony’s given by others, so it is firsthand knowledge of what the President said and what he wanted the Ukraine President to do. On the other hand he could testify that Trump did nothing wrong and that the whole trial was based off of hearsay and that he heard nothing of the sort. Who knows which way this will go, but as a citizen and registered voter, I want the truth, whatever that may be. This does not mean that the President will be removed from office, but I think the truth needs to come out. I always think what if this was a Democratic President who is accused of the things that Trump is accused of and what would The Republican Party think of it.
