Mail-In Voting Ballots

Mail-In Voting does seem to be the one biggest obstacle for the Trump Administration at this time. It also seems to be the safest and most accessible way to vote in 2020, with the coronavirus looming in many states, throughout the United States, as I write this today.

Skip The LineVoting rights groups and many Democrats are ratching up pressure to make mail-in voting more available nationwide in response to the coronavirus pandemic, but President Trump is standing his ground, and claiming that vote by mail is fraudulent.

Is Vote By Mail Fraudulent?

Voter fraud in the United States is exceeding rare, with mail in ballots and otherwise. Over the past 20 years, about 250 million votes have been cast by a mail-in ballot nationally.

The Heritage Foundation maintains an online data base of election fraud cases in the United States and reports that there have been just over 1,200 cases of voter fraud of all forms, resulting in 1,100 criminal convictions, over the past 20 years. Of these, 204 involved the fraudulent use of absentee ballots; 143 resulted in criminal convictions.

Now lets look at the totals and percentages of mail-in voting. One hundred forty-three cases of fraud using mail-in ballots over the past 20 years. This comes out to seven to eight cases per year nationally.

This data also means that across the 50 states, there has been on average of three cases per state over the 20-year span. That is just one case per state every six or seven years. This means that this translates to about 0.00006 percent of total votes cast.

Trump Wants To Delay The Election

Trump has unsubstantiated claims that mail-in voting begets inaccurate or fraudulent results when he raised the prospect of delaying the November 3rd election.

“With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history,” Trump tweeted last Thursday.

Kim Wyman (Secretary of State of Washington) a Republican, is in one of a handful of states that vote almost entirely by mail. A growing number of states are embracing mail-in voting-which is essentially the same as absentee voting-over fears that going to polling stations could increase exposure to the coronavirus.

Wyman states: “I think it really shatters people’s confidence in the process.” She goes on to say, “We need to make sure we’re inspiring confidence in the public that this is a fair election. And the way you do that is balancing access and security.”

Contrary to the president’s claims of fraudulent mail-in voting is very rare according to election security experts. And as for Washington, Wyman said, “We’ve seen a very low incidence of any kind of voter fraud.”

Trump’s Reelection Strategies

President Donald Trump is quick to call “fake news” on any suggestion he won’t win a second term, yet his record campaign shake-up and increased attacks on mail-in voting signals the political perils he faces from a raging pandemic, which he has not been convinced is really happening.

He has called it a Hoax, or statements that it will be like a miracle and just go away. Which of course are not true to this day with over 153,000 people dead since March 2020. There is also the cratering economy, which our governmental officials haven’t even come close to another stimulus, or relief package for the people, with over 30 million people right now out of jobs, and the extra $600 dollars a week really helped keep the economy going.

Trump has toted that the election (even though now he says he doesn’t want to change the date of the election) could be days “or even years” until the nation knew the outcome if mail-in balloting is used. “I don’t want to see a crooked election,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “This election will be the most rigged election in history, if that happens.”

Biden’s Lead In The Polls, Widening

Biden has also captured the lead with voters, because of the coronavirus debacle from the Trump administration’s handling of the pandemic at the beginning, now it feels like it is out of control in some ways, and states. With the complete lack of any federal planning with the coronavirus, Trump has put people’s right to vote-by mail in a stronger position. The unrest over police brutality and racial inequality-that has helped propel Democratic nominee Joe Biden into the lead.

Fox PollsTrump trails Biden by more than 8 percentage points in the RealClearPolitics polling average, and is behind in key battleground states like, Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

A crucial week on Capitol Hill that began with a rocky Republican roll out of a coronavirus relief package ended with a complete breakdown in negotiations, threatening to deepen the perils of an already embattled President Donald Trump.

“When things go wrong with government policy, voters blame the president,” Jake Pitney, a professor of government at Claremont McKenna College, said in an email. “The classic case is Hwrbert Hoover and the Depression. Carter and Bush 41 lost their reelection bids because of economic downturns that were much less severe.” Pitney adds.

Pitney goes on to say, “In case the problems are unusually serious and the president’s responsibility is usually clear.” Adding, “message to the GOP from top to bottom: Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.”

In Conclusion

Polls say that 70 percent of Americans support voting by mail. A strong majority of voters support having an option to vote by mail in November over fears they could contract the coronavirus by going in-person to a polling station. Which we all just seen a few months ago was not ideal, with huge lines of people, some with masks and some without, but for the most part, there was no social distancing at all.

The latest Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll Survey finds that 70% of voters support a mail-in option, including 88% of Democrats, 71% of Independent voters and 50% of Republicans.Voter Suppression

Seventy-five percent of voters said they’re at least a little concerned about catching the coronavirus if vote by mail is not an option.

President Trump’s claims about why November’s election could be marred and illegitimately shifted again, after he walked back his desire to potentially delay voting, hence not having an election in 2020.

Trump falsely claimed that the U.S. is sending out “hundreds of millions of universal mail-in ballots” and also repeated a conspiracy theory about foreign countries counterfeiting ballots.

Trump also reported a fear that he and Attorney General William Barr have raised, about foreign countries counterfeiting ballots. Neither Trump nor Barr have explained how such a plot could successfully pass the numerous safeguard’s election officials have in place, like barcodes and signature verification, instead they have said as Trump did, that the threat was “obvious.” Basically this statement is false in its nature.

  1. In the Uk, Postal votes are on the increase. I worked in Law enforcement in an area where the number of postal votes was significantly higher than the national average. The problem was within certain communities there were various ways that votes could be taken and manipulated. It is a crime that takes place blatantly in front of the general public

    1. Thank you Castle for your comment, I am from Colorado in the U.S. and I have been voting by mail for almost 20 years now, like the article says, there is a higher percentage of absentee voter ballots being manipulated than regular vote by mail. I cannot remember in 20 years of any major voting frauds that took place, anywhere in the U.S., but like I said with the coronavirus raging here in the U.S. and with no end in sight. Vote By Mail is the safest way for all voters who don’t want to brave the huge voting lines here.

Voter Suppression is also ramping up throughout the U.S. with 1 polling station for 25,000 in Atlanta Georgia, as well as in Wisconsin, Michigan, and numerous other states, so it is just not about vote by mail, but the Trump administration has put in his own post master for all post offices in the U.S., and since that happened a little over two weeks ago, all mail is running at least 2-3 days late already, and this is all leading up to the presidential election in November. So I am, and others are seeing the writing on the wall, Trump will and has used anyway to cheat to win reelection. Thanks again for your comment, greatly appreciated.
